Common Questions About a Thigh Lift
The following are some frequently asked questions about thigh lift surgery. If you have a different question about this procedure, please contact our office.
Who can choose thigh lift surgery?
Thigh lift surgery is ideal for patients of many ages who deal with unsightly excess skin and tissue on and around their thighs that does not respond to diet and exercise. Patients should not have any more weight to lose and should be nonsmokers, both of which will ensure a satisfactory result and proper healing.
How is a thigh lift performed?
A thigh lift is performed as an outpatient surgery while you are under a local anesthetic with sedation. To begin, Dr. Ellen will make careful incisions in your thighs, where they can be hidden by the natural contours of your body as much as possible. She will then remove the excess skin from the incision sites to tone the thighs. She may also use liposuction to slenderize the area for a more beautiful result. The doctor will then close the incisions with sutures, cover them with surgical dressing and apply a compression garment.
How will I care for my lower body after a thigh lift?
The compression garment Dr. Ellen will apply after your surgery will need to be worn for several days, at least, as it will promote the new contours of your thighs. You will need to restrict your activity as you heal, but Dr. Ellen will expect you to walk shortly after surgery. Any swelling you may experience should gradually subside and discomfort may be managed with medication.
Are there alternatives to a thigh lift?
In some cases, liposuction of the thighs may be enough to achieve the desired result. These patients are usually younger with good skin elasticity and do not struggle with excess skin, but mostly stubborn fat deposits.
