Common Questions about Facelift Surgery
We've listed answers to several common questions about facelift surgery. Dr. Ellen uses a variety of techniques to meet the aesthetic goals of her patients, so contact our Detroit area surgery office if you have specific inquiries about your facelift.
What happens during a facelift?
In a typical facelift, Dr. Ellen will make an incision near your temples behind the hairline, which will travel in front of your ears and then behind your earlobe. She will then remove excess fat and skin that leads to drooping of the lower face. After carefully redraping the skin and closing the incision with sutures, Dr. Ellen will cover the incisions with a dressing and tape.
How will I feel during recovery from a facelift?
In some cases, recovery from a facelift can last up to three weeks. During this period, you will need to get plenty of rest and limit your activities. Some swelling and discomfort should be expected, but remember that Dr. Ellen can prescribe medications to help manage pain.
Will my friends or family know I had a facelift?
A good facelift will never be obvious. After your recovery, you should look naturally wellrested, refreshed, and younger. Today, facelifts are performed in a way that achieves subtle but satisfying results.
Does a facelift leave scars?
Facelift scars should be hidden around your ears and hairline, in the natural skin folds where they will not be obvious. They should be easily concealed and should flatten out over time. Dr. Ellen or a member of our staff can advise you on applying makeup to cover the signs of surgery.
Will the results be permanent?
Facelift results are long lasting. However, the effects of the aging process continue after your procedure, so the results should not be considered permanent.
