Brow Lift

Brow lift surgery is ideal for addressing the gradual descent of the forehead skin. This sagging facial skin will often hood the eyes and show deep wrinkles.

Fortunately, Detroit area plastic surgeon Dr. Ellen Janetzke offers advanced techniques in brow lift surgery, so you don't have to live with this condition.

Indications for Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery can help restore the natural arch of the forehead and eyebrows, correcting several imperfections with one surgery. You may be a candidate for brow lift surgery if you have:

  • Wrinkles, frown lines or crow's feet
  • Sagging eyebrow or forehead skin
  • Loose skin or fatty tissue that has begun to hang over your eyes

Lifting the brow and its underlying tissue can have a very dramatic result. A woman's eyebrows can sit higher and have a more youthful arch. On all patients, deep wrinkles will be smoothed out on the forehead and between the eyes. The eyes can actually stand out and appear more youthful once you address the hooded skin that resides on the brow.

Common Questions about Brow Lift Surgery

Here we have listed several of the most frequently asked questions about brow lift surgery. If you have a question for Dr. Ellen, please send us an email or call our office in Birmingham, Michigan.

What happens during a brow lift?

A brow lift typically requires two hours or less to complete. Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation is used. In some cases, the brow lift is performed using an endoscope, which allows the doctor to see your facial tissues. Through five small incisions in the hairline, or one incision across the hairline, the sagging brow skin is removed or lifted.

Can a brow lift be combined with other procedures?

Aging affects every person's appearance in a slightly different way. Therefore, a different treatment may be needed. To provide the best results, Dr. Ellen can tailor your brow lift as necessary. She may recommend eyelid surgery, a facelift or a laser peel in addition to (or as an alternative to) your brow lift.

How will I feel during recovery from a brow lift?

You will need about 7-10 days to allow the brow lift incisions to heal. During recovery you will rest and avoid rigorous activities. If Dr. Ellen uses non-dissolvable sutures, they will be removed during a follow-up appointment scheduled one week after your surgery. Follow all of Dr. Ellen's post-operative instructions closely during your recovery.

What kind of results should I expect?

After brow lift surgery, the tissues of your brow will be lifted. Lines and wrinkles will be noticeably smoother. Your eyes may also appear wider due to removal of hooding.

Does a brow lift have side effects or risks?

After your brow lift, you may experience temporary changes in forehead mobility. Hindered mobility or loss of sensation in the forehead is not a permanent condition, but may continue as the tissues heal. Dr. Ellen will review all brow lift risks with you during a consultation.
